With over 40 years of experience in manufacturing, one of the key components that sets Pentaflex Inc. apart from the rest is our people. Today, we would like to introduce you to Jason Smith.
We sat down with Jason and asked him a few questions about his role at Pentaflex, what he would still like to learn more about in his role, and his advice for students who are interested in a career in manufacturing.
Q: When did you start working at Pentaflex Inc.?
A: I started working for Pentaflex in February of 2023. I am excited to be a part of this team and to learn more about how to best serve our customers and our community.
Q: Why did you decide to work at Pentaflex Inc.?
A: Growing up in the Springfield, Ohio area, I’ve known about Pentaflex and what a great place it is to work at for my whole life. When I decided I wanted to add stamping experience to advance my knowledge and my career, I knew Pentaflex was the perfect place for me. It is also really close to home, which is an added benefit to my work-life balance.
Q: What is your favorite part about working at Pentaflex Inc.?
A: Well, I’ve only been here for a short amount of time, so at this point I’d have to say everything I’ve had the opportunity to learn in just two short months. Especially anything new I’ve had the chance to learn about stamping! For example, I’ve recently learned more about the difference between stamping dies and forging dies – the material flow dynamics of hot vs. cold working and how that can impact a finished product.
Q: What is your favorite memory so far from working at Pentaflex Inc.?
A: Definitely experiencing the larger presses cycling – the physics behind it all fascinate me!
Q: If someone is thinking about a career in manufacturing, what advice would you give them?
A: Find something that interests you, find a place to come in and get your hands on things. Once you have had your hands on things and watch the magic of making something from nothing your mind will be captivated and a rewarding life can be built! Although it can be a bit messy at times the rewarding end of making things makes up for the negative image that manufacturing DOES NOT deserve!
