The Pentaflex Inc. team recently purchased three Hexagon Coordinate Measuring Machines (also known as CMM’s) with an HP-S-X-1H 3D high-accuracy scanning probe. Essentially, these machines will allow the Pentaflex team to increase measurement throughput and extended measurement capability. As a result, this will allow faster and more accurate analysis along with reduced setup times.
The laser scanner will give us maximum performance for complex surfaces and workpieces made from materials that are historically more challenging to measure. Also, the high scanning frequency supports higher productivity and reduces cycle times.
With this equipment, we receive the most important benefit, which is a higher quality product with sharper precision. We also receive the additional benefits, like a safer working environment, a faster system, and a streamlined process to improve productivity for our team and our customers. For example, before this machine investment, the Pentaflex team used to have to outsource all scanning projects. Because of this, our average turnaround time was about three days. Since we are able to move this part of the process back under our roof, we have cut that time down to just fifteen minutes.
With four lab technicians and one quality engineer trained on this equipment, we ensure that there is always someone there to keep the CMM’s running smoothly and efficiently for our production floor.
In addition to the benefits shared already, the CMM’s will be able to complete our press setup verifications as well as process checks per our customer requirements. Also, the laser scanner will allow us to reverse engineer when a CAD model is not provided by a customer.
Because of these additions to our quality and overall productivity, we are pleased with the decision to invest in continuing to review and streamline our production for the long-term benefits of our customers and our team members.
