Connecting with Our Community and Serving Our Employees

Pentaflex, Inc. has been a part of the Springfield and Clark County, Ohio communities since 1972. Since then, we have continued to fulfill our company mission, “to meet or exceed the requirements of our customers, employees, investors, suppliers, and community through continuous improvement.” One example of continuing to improve is the way we listen to, serve, and support our dedicated team of employees. These employees are hardworking men and women in the surrounding communities that deserve a safe and reliable place to work. In 2021, our leadership team learned of a barrier a group of our employees was facing in reaching the Pentaflex facility each day for their shift.

Not all Pentaflex employees currently have access to a reliable mode of transportation, whether it be their personal vehicle or community transportation. Since our industry calls for multiple shift schedules along with the occasional overtime, the Pentaflex leadership team was on the hunt for a solution that would best serve our employees and allow them an opportunity to safely and reliably show up to their scheduled shifts on-time.

The first idea for a partnership with a non-profit organization who has excess transportation capacity came to us while attending a Human Resources Roundtable. A metal stamping facility in Tennessee shared their success with a similar partnership. Fellow manufacturer, McGregor Metal, reached out to The Abilities Connection (TAC) and invited other manufacturing facilities in the Springfield and surrounding area to a brainstorming session. After this brainstorming session, Pentaflex volunteered to head up the partnership program and started our pilot in January of 2022.

In this current agreement, Pentaflex shares employee participants’ home addresses and shift hours. TAC then provides transportation and invoices Pentaflex at an hourly rate. Transportation is available for pickup and drop off for our 1st (5a-3p) and 2nd (3p-1a) shifts along with overtime on Friday and Saturdays when applicable.

After approximately five months of the program, both TAC and Pentaflex are seeing success with the partnership, and plan to continue it for the foreseeable future.
